Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How long will it take to deliver my tiles?

A. Usually 3 to 4 working days from receipt of order to delivery. It is possible to deliver next day but to do this we need the order before 10.00am. Next day delivery will involve a small extra shipping cost.

Q. How are the tiles delivered?

A. They are delivered on a tail lift lorry using a pallet truck. They can be rolled  a short distance from the lorry providing the ground is smooth and solid. The driver cannot help move the tiles into the property.

Q. What is your minimum order quantity?

A. We have no minimum order quantity. We always ship on a pallet with a standard cost to most parts of the UK, this means that a small quantity of tiles will incur a relatively high delivery cost.

Q. Can I apply stone tiles to an uneven floor?

A. Yes, floors with minor bumps and hollows can be levelled by using more or less adhesive. For more uneven floor use a self levelling compound before tileing.

Q. Can I have underfloor heating with stone tiles?

A. Yes stone is the ideal flooring for use with underfloor heating of either the electric or piped water types. With both systems a flexible adhesive and grout is important.

Q. Where can stone tiles be installed?

A. For a detailed technical report refer to BS5385 Wall and Floor tiling.

The tiles must be laid on a suitable substrate, the surface must be flat, dry, clean free of dust or grease. Below are brief notes on the likely substrates encountered:

Sand and cement screeds

A dry level screed is ideal for laying natural stone tiles. Newly laid screeds must be fully cured before stone is installed. The generally recommended drying time is 20-30mm per week, possibly longer with bad weather conditions.

Timber suspended floors

The floor must not flex under the load of the tiles. To strengthen the floor fix 18mm plywood over the floor in a staggered pattern and screw down at 140mm centres. A flexible adhesive and grout must be used when fixing to timber floors.

Existing tile floors

Loose tiles should be removed and the remainder thoroughly cleaned and degreased.

Cork, vinyl and wooden floors

Cork, vinyl and wooden (parquet) flooring should be removed including the removal of any bitumen before applying stone flooring.
